Technology is changing and improving faster than we can think of uses for it – but maybe we are not thinking of all the right things to do. It is changing much faster than we can change organisations and professions, skill and re-skill or even design systems to take advantage of it. This is possibly the most rapid evolution of technologies in history and it is enabling the creation of new economies and opportunities that are outpacing our normal development of skills or support systems. So what is the new normal?
The systems that are built to be effective in this new world are those that take advantage of the nature of convergence. Just look around. Pre-school children using wireless technology via devices that would have been the size of a room twenty years ago, always-on businessmen, digital homes, an internet of things and more to come. This bringing together people, content and transactions in ways that adapt to the changing world.
Technology frameworks developed by KT Studio over the last 10 years have been all about dealing with this convergence to support knowledge spaces. Dynamic systems, content object environments, metadata and semantic technologies and most of all – being people centric. The broader design and architecture philosophy evolved as did the specific technologies but always they were at the forefront. New projects will extend this trend by further development of mobile interfaces, new standards and media suited to a broadband future.
This will also be driven by emerging digital economy trends towards networked knowledge, expertise systems, just-in-time learning and innovation systems. Emergent Form is currently establishing relationships with developers, vendors and system architects to extend the development of technologies and systems suited to the new digital economy.
